WANNI:
TIGER terrorists, running for life after their string of military debacles and setbacks in POONERYN and MANKULAM, continue to meet their doom as more and more of their terrorist vehicles also falling into trouble.

The latest episode in MANKULAM area is related to the fate befell the LTTE Elf canter lorry that was carrying one of the top Tiger leaders, responsible for MANKULAM area. As the dusk fell on Monday (17) after the capture of MANKULAM, alert troops of the Task Force-III suddenly observed a speeding Elf canter lorry bound eastward along MANKULAM-OLUMADU road.

Troops quickly reacted to the situation and went on firing at the fleeing LTTE vehicle, finally forcing it to skid off the road and fall into a muddy marshy patch on the roadside. Remaining terrorists, unable to salvage the vehicle, have however with their provincial leader retreated into un-cleared areas, leaving their Elf canter and weapons behind, the troops said.

As of Tuesday (18) morning, troops have reached the location and were trying to move out the LTTE vehicle from the roadside since it has submerged in the mud.

Meanwhile, latest reports from the WELIOYA front have now confirmed that a senior terrorist, probably the LTTE leader responsible for terrorist operations in the ANDANKULAM area, sustained injuries in the attack on the double cab on Sunday (16). 11th Gemunu Watch troops serving under 593 Brigade carried out this attack in a meticulous and professional manner. (See Situation Report titled “Troops Catch LTTE Vehicle Carrying Terrorists”)

Forward troops fired their small arms on the passing bullet-proof double cab of the terrorists, piercing an unprotected patch of its windscreen and killing the terrorists at the wheel on the spot.

Besides, subsequent shower of small arms fire on the damaged LTTE vehicle has apparently injured the terrorists inside it.

However, it is learnt that the injured LTTE area leader has been secretly moved into the interior of the jungle by fellow-terrorists before the troops reached the location and recovered the double cab with arms and explosives. Generally, only selected Tiger leaders are used to move about in such protected vehicles, believed to have been either robbed or snatched from some organizations or state agencies.
